My Kingdom for a Good-Night's Sleep

It's a common thing, and I know it happens to everyone out there, but I have to admit that on the odd occasion my mind draws a complete blank on things. Now, I don't know if it's the blond in me, or whether it's a natural phenomena, but it happened this morning. It left me with the dilemma of what I was going to blog about today. I had no idea.

So, I asked a colleague, and he replied that I should blog about him and express just how tired he felt. (Bless him. Sometimes I expect him to slink in here in the mornings dragging a blanky and a teddy) Whether he meant that literally or not, I decided to follow the `ol' great one's` advice. However, I didn't think he'd appreciate me highlighting how tired he truly looks, with his half closed eyes and his `just-dragged-myself-out-of-bed` look (and we wouldn't have him looking any other way) so I thought I'd diverse just slightly, and blog about the recipe for a good-night's sleep.

It just so happens that we have a new bedding range in - Egyptian Cotton Duvet Sets! (up and coming to our website) As I was writing the product description and getting them ready to load onto the website, I got thinking about their images. The one's we had really didn't do them much justice, so I foolishly volunteered to take them home and redo them.

(Sometimes I'm just filled with stupid ideas! It has to be that blond side of me again!)

It's never fun changing a duvet cover, and King-Size just adds insult to injury, especially when I had a few to contend with. Very quickly I lost the will to live. Not only did I have to make my bed with these new sheets, I had to iron them as well. Where they had been in the packaging the fold marks made them look patterned, and the images come out disastrous.

Now, I bet some of you are sitting there thinking `How hard can it be to make a bed and take some pictures?` Allow me to expose the truth to your `it's easy` fallacy.

It's not easy!

When you're selling bed linen, you want your pictures to look stunning, for the beds to be perfect, so that it makes you feel like jumping all over it and sinking into it's soft cosiness. It's supposed to capture that lure of temptation, so that you want to buy the sheets and create that same feeling at home.

I am now convinced that it is almost impossible to create a perfect picture, and I have no idea how other people do it. Are there professional bed-makers out there? Are there firms that you can hire specifically to come over and arrange your duvet? Or do they just use spray-paint to get the perfect look? One thing is for sure, and that's that I couldn't do it! I couldn't get all the creases out to make the sheet look flawless. I even resorted to ironing the sheet on the bed! It was like mission-impossible, only my bed didn't self-destruct after five seconds.

I gave it my best shot though, despite my cat's ploy to try and ruin me, and I was impressed with feel of the Egyptian cotton. It's a lot more luxurious than normal cotton.

So, the recipe to a good-night's sleep?

Don't worry about those creases!
